Saturday 23rd November 2024, 9.30am - 4pm

Old Down Hall, Basingstoke RG22 5UY

Morning: Learn how to make both the Friendship Star Block and the Wonky Star Block. The blocks require a minimum of three fabrics. Printed patterns with cutting & piecing instructions are included in the fee of £15.

Afternoon: Carry on making the Star Blocks or bring along a project to stitch as we enjoy a relaxing few hours sewing and chatting.

Light refreshments will be available - don't forget to bring your lunch!

This is the second in a series of patchwork block workshops designed to introduce different techniques. Completed blocks can be used to make a traditional Sampler Quilt or to make a Puzzle Quilt. I'll be providing layouts for both and ideas to help you design your own quilt top. You do not need to attend all of the Workshops to complete your quilt top. The blocks may also be used to make cushions, table runners, bags or wall hangings.

Equipment Required

·      General sewing kit – sharp scissors, pins, tape measure.

·      Sewing machine in good working order with manual.

·      Quarter inch foot (optional)

·      Good quality 50wt cotton thread (Mettler, Aurifil, Gutterman) for piecing.

·      Materials (listed below)

·      Rotary cutter, mat (ideally 24” x 18”) and rulers (12” x 6” and/or 24” x 6” or similar).

Skills Required

·      Able to rotary cut fabric to size.

·      Able to stitch quarter inch patchwork seams.

Materials Required

Please choose quilting weight 100% cotton as this is the best weight fabric to use in conjunction with a pattern designed for machine patchworking.

Choose at least three fabrics that contrast well with each other (think: light, medium, dark). Without contrast the patchwork design will not be easy to see. Three shades of the same colour will work too!
