This Lunar New Year Cartoon Grid Drawing resource gives grades 1 to 4 students a simple, structured way to build drawing confidence. Students copy a cartoon image one square at a time from the example grid into the blank grid beside it, which helps them slow down, focus and feel successful as they draw.

It is a good fit for art teachers, classroom teachers, substitute teachers and homeschool families. The cartoon-style images are drawn by Kathleen McGiveron (Ms Artastic) and feature lanterns, zodiac animals, flowers and other Lunar New Year symbols.

WHAT TEACHERS ARE SAYING

★★★★ “really enjoyed using this resource with my Grade 2 class! The grid drawing activities were a great way for students to practice their drawing skills without feeling overwhelmed, and they were really proud of how their pictures turned out. I liked having so many different Lunar New Year-themed options to choose from, and the variety kept students interested and engaged. It was an easy, low-prep way to bring a fun art and cultural connection into the classroom.” Tattle T.

HOW TO USE IT

Use the pages for Lunar New Year art lessons, art centers, early finishers, sub plans, morning work, homeschool art or fine motor practice. They work as a quiet independent activity, a guided art lesson, or a booklet students work through over time.

Because students focus on one small square at a time, they notice lines, shapes and spacing more clearly. That makes a real difference for students who say they "can't draw" or feel nervous starting an artwork. The resource builds observation, fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination and attention to detail.
