DECEIVED – My People Love To Have It So by Bro H
“An appalling and horrible thing Has happened in the land: The prophets prophesy falsely, And the priests rule on their own authority; And My people love it so. But what will you do at the end of it?” [Verse 1] The deceiver did not build this system Without the people’s willing hand; They chose the voice that would not judge them And filled the pews to hear the man. They wanted grace without obedience, A Savior who would never rule; They paid the man who blessed their choices And called the faithful watchman cruel. “For the time will come when they will not endure Sound doctrine,” Paul declared; “They will accumulate teachers for themselves According to their own desires.” They turned their ears away from truth, They chose the myths that pleased them more; The teacher did not force his entrance— The people opened up the door. [Chorus] The prophets prophesy falsely, The priests rule on their own authority; My people love to have it so— What will you do in the end? You gathered teachers for your itching ears, Then turned away from truth; Deceiving and being deceived— What will you do in the end? [Verse 2] A brother opened up the Scriptures And showed where doctrine had gone wrong; They would not search the Word beside him— They closed ranks around the preacher. The teacher was wrong, but the system was sacred; The question threatened the peace of the room. They drove the warning voice from among them And kept the shepherd who scatters the sheep. They called his questions rebellion, Called awakening “falling away”; They guarded the institution— A form of godliness without power. [Verse 3] The preacher offered sudden escape, A rapture from the coming trial; He warned them that they might be left behind, And fear drove them down the aisle. Another taught, “Once saved, always saved,” That sowing no longer carried weight; They kept the prayer and kept their habits, And called presumption saving faith. “Do not be deceived; God is not mocked, For whatever a man sows, this he will also reap.” But the credential replaced the Scripture; The celebrated teachers spoke instead. The pastor searched the shelf for Scofield, The people never searched the Word; Tradition answered every question, And the open Bible went unheard. [Verse 4] Four hundred prophets stood before Ahab, Certain victory had been revealed; One made himself horns of iron, Promising triumph in the field. Micaiah stood alone against them; The king despised the word he brought. The prophets spoke from their own deception, And Ahab heard the lie he sought. Sincerity did not make them faithful; Agreement did not make them right. God gave the lie its full dominion Because they had rejected light. “Because they did not receive The love of the truth so as to be saved, God will send upon them a deluding influence So that they will believe what is false.” [Verse 5] They wave the modern Israeli banner And call those who deny the Son His chosen; They send their offerings and their blessing, Then call their partnership devotion. “Should you help the wicked And love those who hate the Lord? And so bring wrath on yourself From the Lord?” No man wants to say, “I was deceived,” When years and friendships guard the claim; He calls the truth-teller an enemy Rather than bow his head in shame. [Breakdown] You were not left without a witness. You were not left without the Word. You were commanded, “Do not be deceived”— Ignorance cannot be your defense. The sword was placed within your hands, But you laid it down for the preacher’s voice; The liar bears his condemnation— The deceived must answer for his choice. [Bridge] Lord, forgive me for being deceived. Reveal where deception entered me. Grant me repentance and understanding; Turn me from falsehood into truth. Oh, that Your people would listen to You, That Israel would walk in Your ways! Then You would quickly subdue our enemies And turn Your hand against our adversaries. [Final Chorus] The prophets prophesy falsely, The priests rule on their own authority; My people love to have it so— Now what will you do in the end? Turn your ears again toward truth; Let every cherished falsehood go. Repent and walk in the Lord’s ways— Or reap the lie you chose to sow. [Outro] “Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren.”
