This double-knit scarf is inspired by the traditional Japanese Tatewaku (Rising Steam) motif. The continuous waves of rising steam are not only visually pleasing, but they capture the essence of Japan’s deep connection to nature.

The subtle yet elegant movement of steam is achieved by combining stitch increases and decreases. Such shaping techniques elevate colorwork’s possibility of expression.
