This winter art lesson is a fun project for your classroom or homeschool program that celebrates the cold, icy season. Students use paint and pastel or crayon to create a layered mixed media artwork, exploring painted paper techniques and the layering of different materials.

The resource comes with a visual and text step-by-step (each step on its own page with a description), a lesson plan, a rubric, a finished example and a step-by-step drawing handout, so you can plan quickly and teach with confidence.

HOW TO USE IT

Check the lesson plan and gather materials in advance: pencil, eraser, black felt, tempera or acrylic paint, blue and pink construction paper, wax crayons or oil pastels, white paper, and a paint brush and water. Photocopy the step-by-step handouts and rubrics, and consider making a sample yourself first. Print the example in color and show it as your hook.

Project the step-by-step pages on a projector or document camera, or use them as your guide while you demonstrate. Every step has a visual and a text description, which keeps things clear for students.
