Installment 62 of Finding the Names, Volume One — The Ship Manifests opens Roll 8 of the New Orleans inward manifests (National Archives microfilm M1895, NAID 173898130), transcribing images 1–120 name by name: 134 entries (132 named) on 52 manifests. Where Roll 7 was full of great Alexandria packets, this stretch is the small Gulf trade — Tampa Bay, St. Marks, Pensacola, Pearlington, Mobile — often one or two people at a time, many of them servants travelling with households. Documents run from December 1836 to December 1838.

Inside: the ship Georgian's three disagreeing papers — four men on her table, "Three in number" on her certificate, and Inspector Scovill, who boarded three times and found "no Slaves on board," then examined and passed the same men the same day; Isabel of the Arabian, her name blotted out and recovered from the endorsement "Not Put on Board"; Aurelia, 14, of the Nashville, whose boarding officer found no Negro on board; George and Masalee, the Elizabeth master's own servants, landed at the mouth of Pearl River and never brought to New Orleans; Sidney's separate one-man manifest for the same Hortensia sailing that carried seventeen others; the steamboat Merchant's five people with no ages or heights recorded at all; an infant entered by the clerk himself as "No Name an Infant."
