Free step cards for practising a bus journey with young people with SEND. I teach travel in small steps, and this is the set I start with.

What's included

• 12 step cards, from checking the bus number and time to walking on to where you are going

• What if cards for four common problems: the bus is late, I miss my stop, the bus is full, someone bothers me

• Family practice log so home and school can record each journey

• Confidence check: plan my journey, pay or show my pass, know when to get off, cope if something goes wrong

How I use it

We go through the cards in class first, then practise on a real route with an adult close by. The adult steps back a little more each time. The what if cards get talked through before the first trip, not on the pavement. Send the practice log home so families can keep the routine going at weekends.

Good for KS4, post 16 and supported internship groups working on Preparing for Adulthood outcomes.
