He had every good intention when he pulled out of the drive. The fiddle just had other plans. Officer I Can Explain is a Texas western swing party anthem about the night an officer got sent to Miller's field to shut down a bonfire that was allegedly getting out of hand — took one listen to that fiddle playing and stood there completely unable to explain his next move to dispatch. He's shut down a thousand parties. Not like this. By midnight somebody handed him a cold drink, he looked up at Wyoming stars, and called in for a longer shift. Bob Wills fiddle from start to finish, baritone storytelling, deadpan spoken word bridge, and a radio crackle outro that says everything the song already said. The music won. Everybody knew it.
