Vanishing Point is a shawl that is easy and fun to knit and a joy to wear.

A vanishing point is a point in a perspective drawing onto which parallel lines appear to converge.
In this shawl lines of diamond shapes converge toward the point getting smaller and smaller, giving a “perspective” effect to the entire piece.

Vanishing Point is worked in diamond modules, joined seamlessly while you knit. The entire colorwork is knitted using only a color at a time, avoiding stranding and floats on the wrong side.

The dramatic and decorative zig-zag border at one edge of the shawl is the direct consequence of this construction.

Modules are worked all in the same way, with the difference of having a bigger or smaller MC diamond inside, which create the perspective effect.

Once you get the hang of how a module is made, this is a perfect TV knitting project, with just a little twist given by the unusual construction and the different size of the CC diamonds to keep you interested.

Finished size: 140 x 120 cm (55 x 47.25”).

Yarn

MC: Approx. 700/800 m (765.5/875 yards) Snail Yarns Merino Single (100% Merino; 366 m 400 yds/100 gr) in color Ice (2 skeins).
CC: Approx. 200/300 m (218.75/328 yards) Snail Yarns Merino Single in color Neptune (slightly more than 1/2 skein).
Note: For yarn substitution consider a good fingering weight merino yarn in two contrasting colors. The shawl works best with one solid/tonal/light speckled as MC and a variegated/selfstriping as CC.
