Ee Ling

Sensuous curves like a mermaid’s tail create a highly wearable shawl. Special instructions for customizing the length of the shawl to use a whole skein of that special yarn are included.

This knitting pattern includes both charts and written instructions and a schematic with measurements.

Materials
Suitable for laceweight, light fingering and fingering weight. Dimensions and yardage amounts vary slightly depending on yarn weight.

Approximately 440-495 yds (400-450 m) laceweight yarn or 500-550 yds (450-500 m) fingering weight yarn.

Samples shown in:

  • 1 skein Vegan Yarn Bellatrix; 448 yd (410 m) per 3.5 oz (100 g); 100% Bamboo in Aurelia
  • 1.2 skeins SweetGeorgia Yarns Merino Silk Fine; 380 yd (347 m) per 3.5 oz (100 g); 50% fine merino wool, 50% silk in Deep Cove
Substitution Notes
The lacy stitch pattern is based on ribbing and wants to get long and skinny; choose a yarn that will hold its shape after blocking. In other words, wools like merino with a lot of elasticity and memory won’t work as well.

Needles & Notions
  • 3.75 mm (US 5) needles for laceweight
  • 4.5 mm (US 7) needles for fingering weight
  • stitch markers (optional)
  • digital scale (optional; to alter size)

Gauge
Look for a yarn that works to 28 sts and 40 rows = 4” (10 cm) over stockinette stitch using 2.75 mm (US 2) needles for laceweight or 3.5 mm (US 4) needles for fingering weight. Refer to pattern Notes for advice on gauge.

Techniques
Working intricate lace from chart or written instructions, slipped stitch selvedge.
