"We're Not Straight" Sex Therapy with Straight Appearing Couples

As therapists, we strive to meet our clients with openness and curiosity, resisting the pull of assumption. Ideally, every new client arrives into a space where we hold both our clinical wisdom and our humility, aware of how much we don’t know about their lived experience. Yet even the most attuned clinician can fall into familiar traps of bias and presumption.

Couples who appear heterosexual but are not, whether queer, bisexual, pansexual, or otherwise, bring unique experiences and challenges to sex therapy.

This 90-minute OnDemand workshop will explore key considerations for working effectively and affirmatively with these clients. Participants will examine how common couples therapy frameworks may unintentionally alienate or invalidate queer-identifying clients in “straight-appearing” relationships, and will learn strategies for fostering safety, authenticity, and connection.

Through lecture, case studies, and practical interventions, attendees will gain tangible skills to integrate immediately into their clinical practice.

This program meets the requirements of the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT) and is approved for CE credits. These CE credits may be applied toward AASECT certification and renewal of certification.
