The Just Jealous Socks are inspired by that wild, ridiculous, beyond-amazing yarn you just adore! Need something truly unique and over-the-top for that skein? This is it! Pooling, speckled, both… doesn’t matter. With these socks on your feet, people might stare… but don’t worry, they’re just jealous!

Pattern Description

These cuff-down socks use cables of long, elongated stitches to create a standout surface texture on top of the fabric. Those elongated stitches also highlight the subtle (and not-so-subtle!) colour details we all love in handpainted yarns. They feature a rounded Chinstrap short row heel and a twisted rib cuff. They are available in three standard adult foot circumferences and the foot length is adjustable to fit.

This pattern requires the knitter to be able to knit a small circumference in the round (the pattern is method-neutral to suit your preferred technique for socks) and clearly explains all techniques required. All cables can be done without a cable needle. Within the pattern you will find links to useful video tutorials as well, so the pattern is accessible to an intermediate sock knitter.

Yarn Requirements and Sizing

Sizes available: Adult Small (Medium, Large) for foot circumferences of 18 (20.5, 23) cm / 7 (8, 9) inches — 58 (66, 74) st

Two foot lengths are provided; note that these are just the *minimum* finished foot lengths required to complete the motif; after the patterning, plain rounds can be worked before the toe, so the socks are actually completely adjustable to fit:

  • Shorter Foot - foot is a minimum of 21.25 (21.75, 22.25) cm / 8.375 (8.5, 8.75) inches long
  • Longer Foot (shown in sample) - foot is a minimum of 24.5 (25, 25.5) cm / 9.625 (9.875, 10) inches long

These socks require approximately 275 (300, 325) m / 300 (325, 350) yards of fingering-weight sock yarn.

The texture on these socks stands out in many different colourways, from sophisticated tonals to yarn that is best described as “SO. MANY. COLOURS.”

Note that the elongated stitches do sometimes slide over each other on the zigzag turns and at the midpoint of the leg. While slightly untidy, this is intentional, as it allows the socks to be more stretchy and easier to fit than a typical sock with many cables.
