So you've heard of one colour brioche, and of course there's the fabulously versatile two colour brioche. But did you know that there's such a thing as three colour brioche? Or at least there is now...

Introducing the Triode shawl, an experiment in brioche in three colours.

If you are comfortable with two colour brioche then three colour brioche is just a small step further down the brioche rabbit hole. This triangular shawl pattern will teach you how to work three colour brioche rib with increases along one edge, making it easily customisable to any size, in any weight of yarn. Just work until the shawl is the size you want and then bind off.

The pattern has both written instructions and charts as well as a link to video tutorials showing how to work brioche in three colours.

Materials:
• Aran weight yarn in three colours, approximately 160m/175yds of each.
• 6mm/US 10 circular needle with an 80cm/32” or longer cable.
• Tapestry needle to weave in ends.

Size of finished shawl:
Wingspan 192cm/76.75", depth 69cm/27.5", relaxed after blocking.

Gauge:
Obtaining gauge is not essential, as long as you are happy with the fabric you are getting. Different gauge will affect the size of the finished object and the amount of yarn used.

The sample shawl had a gauge of 12 stitches and 12 rows of three colour brioche rib in a 10cm x 10cm (4” x 4”) square, after blocking.

Stitch abbreviations and chart symbols are based on those developed by Nancy Marchant.
