Fana Cowl Knitting Pattern

Fana is a reversible cowl featuring traditional sweater motifs from the Fana region of Norway. These are customarily done in stranded knitting in red or green on white, but here are worked in the Double Knitting technique, with marine blue reflecting the coastal origins of the design.

A great first double-knit project--since it’s worked in the round, you don’t have to worry about closing the edges or reading charts backwards! 

Yarn

Trendsetter Yarns Merino VI (100% Extrafine Merino Wool; 136 yds [125 m]/50 g): Color 14339 Regal Marine (MC), 2 (4) balls, Color #100 White (CC), 2 (4) balls, or 185 (495) yds [170 (455) m] each DK weight yarn in two colors.

Needles

Size US 6 (4mm) needle, straight for cast-on

Size US 7 (4.5mm) needle, 16” (40cm) for size Small, 32” (80 cm) for size Large

Extra circular in US 7 (4.5mm) or smaller for Kitchener bind-off (optional)
