Not everyone agreed that this document, compiled by the Motter’s Pond Historical Society, should be seen. What was once tucked in a private drawer has been carefully restored, despite objections from those who would rather it stay forgotten.

In the summer of 1897, a young woman leaves her old life behind to begin anew as a cook at a remote home in northern New Hampshire. Over the course of her employment, she learns that her employer is not who he seems, and that strange and dangerous creatures lurk in the woods. This archival document contains surviving correspondence, and recovered ephemera related to the strange happenings at the Wallingham home in 1897.

Note: This document is an expanded version of "Abscond," originally published as a free choose-your-own-adventure story on Inkblight. While the original version remains available at no cost, this edition includes archival material, commentary, story expansion, and design elements not featured in the Substack version. This is the first episode in the Motter's Pond Historical Society story.
