The $4,000 Build — Complete 3,500W System, Around $4,000 (Free Edition)
THE $4,000 BUILD — Complete 3,500-Watt System (Free Edition)
The sequel to The Factory Build. That book kept your stock alternator. This one upgrades it — and changes every number downstream.
This is a complete 3,500-watt system, all Class D, built on a real power budget: the math that proves the alternator has to come first, and why nothing else survives if it doesn't. Every part is specced, every dollar is counted, and you get two complete budgets depending on which alternator and battery path you choose. The book also gives you two trio box designs (airspace and the math), the install order, a fusing map, and gain-setting targets.
THE PARTS LIST:
• Subwoofers — 3× CSS SDX12 XBL2 12-inch — $435.90 for the trio. Together they sweep 4.1 liters of air, more than a pair of typical 15s.
• Subwoofer amplifier — AudioControl EPIC4000 — $509. The amp that carries the low end.
• Door amplifier — AudioControl EPICFOUR — $199. The four-channel that runs the doors.
• Door speakers — NVX 2-ohm components. Chosen at 2 ohms so the amplifier's power goes to music, not heat.
• Alternator, option A — Mechman 370-amp — ~$599.
• Alternator, option B — DC Power 370 XP — $819.95.
• Battery, option A — XS Power Titan8 lithium — ~$589.
• Battery, option B — AGM — ~$430.
• Wiring — dual 1/0 runs with fused distribution, and RCAs counted as real line items, not afterthoughts.
• Sound deadening — in the plan and in the budgets, because a loud system in a rattling car is just noise.
