UK Edition: When to Step In: Decision Grid for Staff for SEND

A one page decision grid that helps staff decide when to wait, when to prompt and when to step in. New TAs ask me this more than anything else, so I put it on one page.

How I use it

I use it in induction for new staff and as a ten minute CPD activity. Staff read the scenarios, place them on the grid and compare answers. The talk about why two people chose different squares is the useful part.

This sits alongside your school's behaviour policy and crisis prevention and de-escalation training. It is not a replacement for either.
