It was built as mausoleum by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his favourite wife Mumtaz Mahal. Emperor Shah Jahan’s tomb is alongside his wife.It is the finest example of Indo-Islamic architecture being built of white marble inlaid with colourful gemstones. Construction took 10 years from 1632 with workforce of 20,000.
Then we visit Jaipur, the capital city of Rajasthan, known as the Pink City. The City Palace has been home to the Maharaja of Jaipur from 1727, until such titles were abolished by the government in 1970’s. We will also see the thriving arts & craft’s industry of Jaipur.
Finally we tour the Amber Fort, which was the Maharaja’s palace before the founding of Jaipur. This magnificent fort comprises an extensive palace complex, built from pale yellow and pink sandstone, and white marble, and is divided into four main sections, each with its own courtyard.
