In La Umbría, an isolated house in the beech woods, the doors never close and every night Amparo counts her family by candlelight, always leaving one empty chair for Alicia, the daughter who vanished twenty-five years ago. When Clara returns for the anniversary with her husband and young daughter, muddy footprints, unsettling drawings and a sudden death reveal that something in the house is still counting.
