Filet hearts shawl

Another beautiful filet shawl pattern inspired by embroidery from my native Romania, to be worn as a decorative "office blanket" or as an elegant addition to a wedding outfit (maybe made in thinner yarn and with an extra repeat).

This one resembles the motifs in a type of embroidery done over folded fabric, in the front yoke area of what are known as "cămașă cu ciupag", traditionally worn in the Northern and Eastern parts of Transylvania and parts of Maramureș.

In this filet version, two large heart motifs form the main attraction of the fabric, with a central vertical element evoking mountains. The heart motifs are repeatable for a longer shawl.

The pattern includes shorthand instructions and full written instructions for advanced and beginner crocheters, a filet chart with square symbols and a chart with crochet symbols, perfect for beginners.

Notions

• Yarn – up to 400 g or 1600 meters of size 2 or fingering weight yarn, with 400-420 meters per 100 grams or about 437-460 yards per 3.5 ounces; ;
• Hook – 2.5-3 mm regular crochet hook;
• Blocking mats and stainless steel pins for blocking;
• Scissors and tapestry needle for weaving in ends.

In sample: custom gradient 4-ply yarn cake, 1500 meters per 375 g cake.

Size

The sample shown measures 175 cm or 69" in length (without fringe) and 66 cm or 26" in width. The optional fringe measures 11 cm or 4.3".

Skill level

Intermediate in regular crochet, due to unique rows.
