What to know about A/B testing before proceeding๐Ÿค“

You should run an A/B test when thereโ€™s a clear hypothesis, a measurable and relevant metric, and potential downside that justifies validating your assumptions before rolling out the change. If the change is low risk, the metrics wonโ€™t meaningfully affect your decisions, or youโ€™re already certain about the outcome, you can skip the test and proceed.

โ“ Why Use This Board?

๐Ÿ’ก Benefits of Logging All Experiments Here

  • ๐Ÿ“š Single Source of Truth
  • Keep all experiments, hypotheses, outcomes, and insights in one central place โ€” no more scattered docs or Slack threads.
  • ๐Ÿ”„ Repeatable Process
  • The structured workflow ensures every test follows a consistent, thoughtful process โ€” from idea to conclusion.
  • ๐Ÿ” Clarity on Whatโ€™s Working
  • Track what experiments drove impact, which channels performed best, and where to double down.
  • ๐Ÿ“ˆ Data-Driven Decisions
  • Easily reference past results to support or challenge new ideas. Reduce gut decisions, increase ROI.
  • ๐Ÿง  Build Institutional Knowledge
  • Over time, your board becomes a powerful learning library โ€” accelerating growth and avoiding repeated mistakes.
  • ๐Ÿ”— Connect Experiments & Learnings
  • Link related tests and see how one insight led to the next. Great for storytelling and strategy recaps.
  • ๐Ÿ† Prioritize with Confidence
  • The built-in scoring system helps you focus on the highest-leverage experiments first.

๐Ÿงช How to Use the A/B Test Experiment Template

๐Ÿ“ Setup

  • ๐Ÿ”„ Duplicate the example from the "No Status" board to create a new experiment.
  • โž• Click "New Hypothesis" to start.
  • โœ๏ธ Fill out all qualitative details (context, hypothesis, background info).

โš™๏ธ Configure the Experiment

  • ๐ŸŽฏ Set the Status
  • (moves through: Brainstorm โ†’ Queue โ†’ Scheduled โ†’ In Progress โ†’ Analyze โ†’ Conclusion)
  • ๐Ÿ‘ฅ Assign:
  • Team
  • Success metric (North Star)
  • Goal of the experiment
  • Channel
  • ๐Ÿ“Š Add estimates for:
  • Expected impact
  • Confidence level
  • Ease of implementation
  • ๐Ÿงฎ The system will auto-calculate a priority score
  • โ†’ Use this to organize into Brainstorm or Queue

๐Ÿš€ Launch

  • ๐Ÿ“… Move the card to "Scheduled to Launch"
  • โœ… When starting the test, set the Launch Date and move to "In Progress"

๐Ÿ“ˆ Analyze Results

  • โณ Once the test has run long enough for valid data, move it to "Analyze"
  • Log:
  • โœ… Yes/No outcome
  • ๐Ÿ‘ฅ Audience + conversions (Control & Variant)
  • ๐Ÿ“ Hypothesis outcome: Under / Accurate / Over
  • ๐Ÿง  The template will automatically calculate:
  • Statistical significance (65%โ€“95% confidence)
  • p-value, t-score, and z-score

๐Ÿ“ Wrap-Up & Learnings

  • ๐Ÿ—’ Add final notes and learnings (next steps, key insights).
  • ๐Ÿ”— If the experiment leads to follow-ups, link related experiments.
  • ๐Ÿ Set the final status:
  • โœ… Winner
  • โŒ Loser
  • ๐Ÿ“ Archived (often used for flat or inconclusive results)
๐Ÿ’ก Tip: Avoid inconclusive results by writing clear, actionable hypotheses that truly justify testing.
