RECORDING CHARACTER

The historical recording approach discussed in the UNIVERS documentary included a microphone → Neve-style preamp → optical compression concept.

For this project, those ideas were translated into an available in-the-box setup using:

FG800 → Waves Scheps 73 → IK Multimedia White 2A

This is an interpretation of the documented historical approach, not a claim that this exact chain is used by Drake today.

VOX ENGINE

A dedicated vocal-control stage prepares the vocal before it reaches the main lead processing.

This section is designed around the specific needs of the recorded vocal rather than blindly applying a generic preset chain.

LEAD A

The main vocal receives targeted corrective processing using:

• FabFilter Pro-Q 4
• Soothe 2
• FabFilter Pro-MB

The philosophy here is simple:

Remove what gets in the way → control what becomes distracting → preserve the character of the performance.

LEAD BUS

Once the vocal has been cleaned and shaped, it moves into the main vocal bus.

Processing includes:

• Waves RCompressor
• VMR tonal/energy shaping
• SSL tonal shaping
