Astraka Towers: The impressive stone formations in Tymfi



The enormous rocks that seem to observe everything from above and cast their imposing shadow on Mikro Papigo, also known as the “towers” ​​of Astraka, are one of the most characteristic spots in Papigo, which certainly do not go unnoticed. The steep peaks of Tymfi, in Western Zagori, are one of the most popular sights in the area, with their imposing image, which often emerges from a veil of clouds, captivating the visitor to the area even more. Nature carved this particular "sculpture" slowly and steadily, starting their creation 200 million years ago. The height of these stone giants exceeds two thousand meters, while Astraka (2,432 m.) is among the three highest peaks of Tymfi - the others are Gamila (2,497 m.) and Goura (2,467 m.).
