Course Description:

We will discuss the differences between screening colonoscopy, surveillance colonoscopy, and diagnostic colonoscopy. We will discuss ICD-10 guidelines for coding colonoscopy procedures. We will review the guidelines for screening colonoscopy, surveillance colonoscopy, and diagnostic colonoscopy, and discuss colorectal cancer statistics. We will review coding scenario examples for screening, surveillance, and diagnostic colonoscopy.

About the Presenter:

Karen Bowman, FACMPE, CPC, CPMA, CPCO – AAPC Approved Instructor, has been the practice administrator at Gastrointestinal Associates of Cleveland for 21 years. Karen is a CPC, CPMA, CPCO and an AAPC Approved Instructor. Karen is also Fellow with the American College of Medical Practice Executives. Karen is a past member of the AAPC National Advisory Board. She is a past president and has served in numerous capacities with her local AAPC Chapter. Karen has presented for many organizations on topics relevant to healthcare coding, billing, and management. Karen is a past president of Tennessee Medical Group Management Association and has also served as the ACMPE Forum Rep for TMGMA. She currently serves as the Vice Chair of the ACMPE Certification Commission, is the ACMPE Certification Commission Forum Rep Liaison, a past MGMA State Liaison for Kansas, Mississippi, and Louisiana, and is a past president of Cleveland MGMA. Karen is also a past adjunct faculty member for South College in Knoxville and Cleveland State Community College in Cleveland, teaching billing and medical coding. Karen is married, has two children, one special grandson, and three spoiled rescue yorkies and two rescued cats.
