Monthly Labours

Archival giclée print, hand-finished with gold leaf, 30x30cm (12x12").

A depiction of the agrarian tasks associated with each of the twelve months according to a tradition that was popular in Western Europe from the 9th to 16th centuries, with seasonal additions of my own. The names of the months in a Kufi script, along with the symbols of the corresponding Zodiac signs, appear with the sun disc which is gilded in four different shades of gold, from coldest in winter to warmest in summer.
