VeinLux Academy - IV Therapy Course for Licensed Practical Nurses
VeinLux Academy's IV Therapy Course is a complete, self-paced training program built specifically for Licensed Practical Nurses in Alabama who want to add peripheral IV therapy to their clinical skill set. Developed and taught by an RN with over 12 years of clinical experience — including hands-on infusion nursing — this course is grounded in real bedside practice, not just theory, and is built directly around the training content required under Alabama Administrative Code Rule 610-X-6-.14.
This is a hybrid course: work through all 10 core modules online at your own pace, then complete a required in-person hands-on skills check-off (practicum day) with a supervising RN evaluator.
Who This Course Is For
- Licensed Practical Nurses in Alabama who want to add IV therapy to their scope, whether your employer already has an approved Standardized Procedure in place or is considering adding one
- LPNs working in skilled nursing, home health, outpatient, or similar settings where facilities are expanding LPN duties to include IV therapy
- Nurses who want genuine, bedside-level competence and confidence — not just a certificate to check a box
What You'll Learn
By the end of this course, you'll be able to:
- Understand the legal and regulatory framework governing LPN IV therapy practice in Alabama, including the Standardized Procedure requirement
- Apply core clinical foundations — venous anatomy and physiology, and fluid and electrolyte balance — to safe IV therapy
- Select and set up IV equipment correctly, and perform safe, competent peripheral IV insertion on adult patients
- Manage IV tubing set-up, replacement, and removal to professional standard
- Calculate infusion rates accurately for both gravity and pump-based systems
- Safely administer medications via IV, including reconstitution and piggyback administration
- Recognize and respond to local and systemic IV therapy complications before they escalate
- Identify the boundaries of LPN scope of practice in Alabama and apply sound professional judgment
- Document to a professional, medical-legal standard
Each module includes real-world case studies, common-mistake call-outs, and a knowledge check. Pass the Final Comprehensive Knowledge Test (80% or higher) to qualify for your practicum.
What You'll Receive
- Instant access to all 10 self-paced online modules
- A Certificate of Completion from VeinLux Academy
- A signed Skills Competency Checklist from your supervising RN evaluator (after your practicum day)
- A Facility Cover Sheet you can hand directly to your employer
Please note: completing this course provides the training and documented competency record required under Rule 610-X-6-.14, but it does not, by itself, authorize you to perform IV therapy. That authority comes from your employer's own Board-approved Standardized Procedure — always confirm that's in place before performing IV therapy tasks at work.
