Mitigation Blocks Explained — Sort by origin (PDF Guide)

You were taught that a real order block forms after price sweeps liquidity. So you wait for the sweep, and most of the blocks on your chart do not have one, and you skip them. Then you watch them work anyway. You were not being too strict about the wrong thing - you were being strict about a distinction that does not do anything.

Sort every block by what happened at the swing its leg departed from. If that swing took out the one before it, liquidity was collected - the textbook order block. If it did not, nothing was taken and what is left behind is what practitioners call a mitigation block. Measured across 1,866 blocks on 35,944 bars of real history, the split is 42.07% to 57.93% - and the two behave the same: revisited 90.06% against 89.36%, and both coin flips on direction.
