To the Beat of the Drum

In December 1646, the city of Chester is under the control of Parliament’s New Model Army. Struggling to recover from the effects of the siege which ended in February of that year, it is decided to permit an old tradition, a procession of giant puppets to be held.

Gilbert Dancer, a chaplain in the army, has returned to this city of his birth and his arrival stirs up old nightmares and lost memories … of the time when, as a child, he watched the giants walk.
