I have tried to make a verbatim copy of Wells' Advanced Course in Algebra textbook to my best abilities. Wells' book is in the public domain for readers in the United States of America and may also be in the public domain for users in other countries. Bear in mind that mathematical notation has changed, and the method of typesetting mathematics has become computerized, so the style will not be exact. I am using LaTeX to do the typesetting and any errors found may or may not result from my mathematical/technical/grammatical efforts.

The real intent of this textbook is to present a solutions/answer guide to Wells' Examples and Exercises for each chapter, and that's where this textbook differs significantly. The solutions and answers I provide are based on my initial approach but may contain typographical and mathematical errors, so please do take the time to correct me. Each chapter of Wells' text is a worthwhile read, although dated and often pedantic by today's standards. You will, however, learn a great deal about what was once a challenging subject; nowadays, algebra has been considerably dumbed down; hence the apropos title of this text is, The Unbearable Lightness of Contemporary Algebra. And you may be surprised that even if you are a mathematician, you'll learn something new.
