The trencadís is a kind of mosaic made up of irregular pieces of ceramic, marble or glass, usually of an abstract design, typical of modernist architecture.

Modernist architects were very fond of using ceramic tiles, but Antoni Gaudí proposed systems that had not been published until then. Josep Maria Jujol i Gibert was in charge of applying them and who gave it its characteristic personality.
