The instructions and Parts list to build your own Harriet Tubman out of LEGO® bricks.

This is another Brickheadz I designed for Independence Day. I wanted someone who exemplified the American spirit and ideals. After watching the movie Harriet, I started researching Harriet Tubman, to separate historical fact from cinematic fiction. What I discovered was astonishing. Harriet Tubman was stronger and more heroic than most Americans I studied in my history classes.

Tubman was an enslaved woman who escaped in 1849, journeying nearly 100 miles to freedom in Pennsylvania. After escaping, she bravely returned to the south some 13 times to help free around 70 more enslaved people, including all but one of member of her family. She was recognized as a conductor on the Underground Railroad, and carried a pistol and used disguises to evade capture by slave hunters.

During the Civil War she served as a Union soldier and spy. She is credited as the first American woman to lead an armed military expedition within the United States during what is now called the Combahee Ferry Raid. On that raid, she led 150 men and helped free more than 700 enslaved people.

Later in life, she was a suffragist and opened the Harriet Tubman Home for the Elderly in 1908. Her accomplishments are many and varied. She deserves so much more credit, respect, praise, and honor. Hariett Tubman is an unsung hero, she embodies the American Spirit, and should be celebrated as one of our greatest patriots.

Happy Building,
