The simulation of symptoms is a problem that is faced by many professionals from different fields in their practice. Its evaluation and detection is a challenge that requires instruments that facilitate this work. The Spanish adaptation of SIMS arises precisely with that intention, to provide professionals with a brief, reliable and valid tool to explore patterns of falsification and exaggeration of psychopathological and neurocognitive symptoms.
Composed of 75 true-false items, it is characterized by its brevity, its simple interpretation and its great versatility, adapting to the different needs required by the clinical, labor, medical-legal and forensic fields.
The SIMS Total Score allows you to establish the suspicion of simulation. Subsequently, the analysis of the elevations in the scores of the scales that compose it (Psychosis, Neurological deterioration, Amnestic Disorders, Low Intelligence and Affective Disorders) allows us to observe which symptomatology presents in an atypical way, or, how the individual tries to simulate a particular disorder. For each of the five scales, as well as for the total score, cutoff points are provided to consider suspicion of simulation.
