The vertigo cowl is an easy colour-work cowl knit in aran weight yarn that can be tucked underneath a coat or worn on its own over a jumper as an extra layer.

Finished Size: Height x Circumference: 20 x 66 cm (8 x 26 ins).

Yarn
West Yorkshire Spinners Croft Aran, one 100g skein in each of three colours. Shown here in Laxfirth (C1), Lerwick (C2) and Melby (C3).

166 metres per 100g.

Yarn substitution
Once you check your gauge, any aran weight yarn can be substituted into this pattern.  Be aware that some double knitting yarns are sometimes marked as Aran (those in the 180m to 200m per 100g) so do check the gauge of ligther weight yarns. 

Gauge

22 stitches, 24 rounds to 4 inches / 10cm in stranded colourwork in three colours (Chart in the pattern)

Needles & Notions
5.00 mm 40cm long circular needle. 

50 or 60cm long circular needles can also be used, depending on the length of needle you prefer for your stranded colourwork.

Construction Notes
The cowl is knit in the round.  The colour section is worked in stranded colourwork using three colours.
