This End of the Year Graduation Craft and Write pairs a hands-on craft with fiction and non-fiction writing for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th grade. Students follow a tutorial to make the craft, then add their own touch with the included elements so every piece turns out a little different.

After the craft, students complete writing inspired by what they made, using planning pages, prompt pages or blank writing pages. The lesson wraps up with coloring, reflections and a 3 Stars and a Wish. The crafts are inspired by the style of the Ms Artastic YouTube Channel.

HOW TO USE IT

Photocopy the craft elements and put a few out at each table so students can pick the ones they want. Save the unused pieces with the lesson plan for next year, which means less prep and less waste. The templates suit a range of skill levels, so the craft can be a quick activity or a more detailed project.

Once the crafts are done, guide students into writing based on their craft. Choose the primary or intermediate prompt pages, or the blank pages, to match your writers, then finish with peer feedback, the rubrics and 3 Stars and a Wish.
