Father Christmas Kidnapped!

Father Christmas Kidnapped! is a “cut out and play” cooperative boardgame for 1 to 6 players. It is designed for all ages from approximately 8 upwards.

This is a pdf file for you to print in order to then play the game. It is the manuscript for the book, hence the formatting is optimised for the book but is fine for printing (as long as you allow for any blank pages).

Note that this is a boardgame. If boardgames are not your thing ... then perhaps do not play this!

Note that when the components have been cut out they will not have the long-term durability of wood, plastic or card pieces.

To begin playing simply start reading the story; instructions appear where they are needed to play the series of three different mini-games that together create the whole story.

You play as elves worried about the disappearance of Father Christmas. You phone the superhero emergency hotline only to find that limited help is available because the superheroes are busy. So, you have to take matters into your own magical elf hands to ensure Father Christmas is rescued and all the children get their presents on time.

This game is designed to optimise the enjoyment of the first playthrough. It has an emphasis on a strong storyline and on simple rules (that still allow for strategic choices) so that it is a gaming experience and not a “learning the rules” experience. You will be working together co-operatively as a team. The playthrough time is approximately two hours. There is a scoresheet with a timing challenge if you want to replay the game but, based on playtester feedback, most people will probably just want to play it once to best enjoy the novelty of the story.

This was specifically designed to be a “cut out and play” boardgame:

• All the game components are included and simply need cutting out from the book with no additional construction needed.
• Two large play surfaces are included, each made by combining multiple sections together.
• Smaller tokens are printed in groups to make cutting out easier.
• The time required to cut out and organise all the pieces is approximately half an hour.
