The Deaf and Mute Man Made Simple
They brought a deaf man with a speech impediment to Jesus in Decapolis. The Lord took him aside from the multitude, put His fingers into the man's ears, spit and touched his tongue, looked up to heaven and sighed, and said one Aramaic word — "Ephphatha, that is, Be opened" — and immediately his ears were opened and his tongue was loosed, and he spake plain (Mark 7:31-37).
The Deaf and Mute Man Made Simple is a Bible-first walk through those seven verses: the friends who brought him, the deafness and the bound tongue as pictures of every sinner apart from grace, the long road through Decapolis, the intercession, the tender aside from the multitude, the fingers in the ears, the spit on the tongue, the sigh that reached heaven, the one word that opens everything, the immediacy of grace, and the verdict that will never be revised — "He hath done all things well."
Explicitly Trinitarian: God the Father who draws; Jesus Christ — Son of God and Son of Man, Lord and Savior — who touches, sighs, and speaks; and the Holy Spirit, who alone opens ears and looses tongues. Every prayer is to the Father, through Jesus Christ, by the Holy Spirit.
Proof that Jesus still opens what sin has shut. Read one chapter a day. Be brought. Be opened.
