Decoding Your Child's Cough!
Recognizing your baby’s cough is super important for their health! Here are three common types of coughs you might hear and what they mean:
1. Barking Cough (Croup) : This one sounds like a seal barking, and it often shows up at night. If your little one is struggling to breathe, it can be quite scary!
What to do: Keep your baby calm—crying can make it worse. A cool-mist humidifier or a little fresh air outside can really help ease their symptoms.
2. Wheezing Cough (Asthma-like) : If you hear a wheezy or whistling sound when your baby coughs, it might mean their airway is a bit tight, possibly due to allergies or a respiratory infection.
What to do: Sit your baby up and keep them calm. If the wheezing doesn’t go away, don’t hesitate to seek medical help!
3. Persistent or Allergic Cough : If your baby has a cough that sticks around for more than a week or seems triggered by things like dust or pet hair, they might have allergies or an ongoing infection. What to do: Keep an eye out for sneezing or a runny nose. Saline drops can help clear their nose, but definitely consult your pediatrician for further advice!
