Kindergarten Spring Frog Art Project Spring Frog Drawing Resist Painting
In this Spring Frog Art Project, students learn to draw a happy frog sitting on a lily pad while exploring mixed media. The lesson combines guided drawing, oil pastel, and watercolor or tempera paint to build drawing confidence and introduce the oil pastel resist technique.
It is made for classroom teachers, art teachers, homeschool educators and substitute teachers. It fits spring art lessons, frog and pond units, elementary art classrooms and seasonal displays, and helps students explore line, shape, color and texture.
WHAT TEACHERS ARE SAYING
★★★★ “My art students loved this resource! It was a perfect quick lesson that used most of the elements of art and was a great way to refresh what they have learned about color. They loved making the frog their own and using complimentary colors. I will definitely use this again next spring and would recommend!” Raquel D.

WHAT STUDENTS DO
Students draw a frog step by step using simple shapes and lines, then add spots, legs and facial features, plus a bee and lily pad to complete the spring scene. They trace their drawing with oil pastels, add color and background pattern details, and paint the frog and background with watercolor, paint cakes or watered-down tempera. The oil pastel resists the paint, so the lines and colors stay bright.
Project the step-by-step tutorial pages for students to follow, or use them while you demonstrate the lesson live.
