A4 Self Portrait Oil Pastel on Cartridge Paper
A4 Oil Pastel on Cartridge Paper - sealed with high gloss acrylic varnish - includes removeable plastic mount frame
This one was another self portrait from a photo taken after Bryn shaved my head with his pube trimmers on Fountayne Road. I can't remember the exact context - I think I was posting something for intersex awareness day at the time and needed to take some pics for the post (this was before the days of reels! Which was still only about 5 years ago which seems absolutely mad to be honest!)
Anyway I took these self portrait photographs in my little windowless box room at unit 26 warehouse, 5 fountayne road, underneath my mezzanine bed (which is the place the baby mice were discovered wrapped in a blanket - a night-long story for another time!)
I love this self portrait so much even though Luis told me that I hadn't captured myself in it at all...and that I'd missed my own elegance!
It's an expressive portrait and I think in the original photo that their is a certain weight to my lip, a heaviness, and a flatness to the back of my head, and curve to my blue sweater, and...a highlight to my cheek that I captured quite well. So I'll take that over the loss of my elegance.
To be honest when I look back at the original photograph I have defintely not gotten my jawline or my nose or my neckline perfect. But I stand by the other factors and I am still in love with this piece whether is reflects my likeness well or not!
It is what it is and I love what that is!
