Chalet Days

Construction 

Chalet Days is knit seamlessly from the top down. The colorwork yoke is knit, and short rows are worked to raise the back of the neck for a comfortable fit. The body and sleeves are separated and worked from the top down. The only finishing is to pick up the stitches at the neck and work the neckline.

Selecting A Size
Chalet Days is intended to be worn with 2-4” / 5-10 cm of positive ease. Select a size 2-4” / 5-10 cm larger than your bust circumference. Measurements below are for the finished sweater.

Techniques Used In This Pattern
Long tail cast on, German short rows, stranded colorwork, picking up stitches, knitted cast on, tubular bind off (optional)

Needles
Needle A (Main Fabric)
One 24” circular needle, US 7 / 4.5 mm or size needed to get gauge

Needle B (Sleeves)
One 40” circular needle for magic loop or DPN’s, US 7 / 4.5 mm or size needed to get gauge

Needle C (Main Fabric: Cast On and Beginning of Yoke)
One 16” circular needle, US 7 / 4.5 mm or size needed to get gauge

Needle D (Sleeve Ribbing)
One 40” circular needle for magic loop or DPN’s, US 6 / 4 mm

Needle E (Neckband Ribbing)
One 16” circular needle, US 5 / 3.75 mm

Notions
Removable stitch markers, waste yarn, tapestry needle to weave in ends

Gauge
19 sts and 23 rnds = 4” / 10 cm in stockinette stitch, knit in the round on larger needles, after blocking.

A Note About Colorwork Gauge
It may be helpful to go up one needle size while knitting colorwork, only if you know your colorwork tension to be tighter than your stockinette tension. Be sure to return to the needle used to achieve gauge after completing the yoke.

Using the Colorwork Charts
For ease of use, the colorwork charts are provided in two different views. Use the charts on page 9 if using a darker color for the main color and a lighter for the contrasting color.
Use the charts on page 10 if using a lighter color for the main color and a darker for the contrasting color.
