Games for modern storytellers
Have fun with friends!
Tarot images are a wonderful tool for better understanding oneself; they are ideal companions on one's journey of personal growth, self-awareness and inner transformation.
In this guide, however, I take you to discover Tarot as a storytelling machine for playful purposes: I propose a series of games with which you can enjoy fun evenings with friends, unleashing your imagination and creativity.
Tarot has been used as a card game for centuries, and the playful element is an integral part of its history. Even today, the spreads are called games, and in Renaissance courts Tarot images were also used to invent amusing motets. It has also long since been used by many writers and scriptwriters.
Quite some time ago I began playing with Tarot by inventing stories and outlining what later became the rules for one of the games included in this guide. Later I read Italo Calvino's “The Castle of Crossed Destinies” and found written in it a “game” very similar to the one I had thought up! It amused me and encouraged me to go on to invent other ways of “storytelling with Tarot”.
In this guide you will find team or multiplayer games, using Marseille Tarot or a classic Italian Tarot.
Be inspired by the novel “The Castle of Crossed Destinies,” a great example of the endless narrative possibilities of Tarot, and give space to your playful side: guaranteed fun!
