To be and Have got
Make learning the verb to be and have got fun! 🌟
This activity is designed especially for teachers working with young learners who are ready to write, but still need a little extra time and motivation — particularly children in the first year of primary school.
At this age, learning the basics is essential, but writing “to be” or "have got" over and over again may not seem very exciting. And when something feels boring, children can quickly lose interest… and suddenly, even a simple verb becomes a real challenge! 😅
So why not turn it into a little game?
This worksheet combines visual memory, hands-on learning and a fun speed challenge in three simple steps:
✂️ Step 1 – Cut & Shuffle
Visual memory + craft activity
Cut out the pieces of the verb and shuffle them. Can your students remember what the verb looks like?
🧩 Step 2 – Build the Puzzle
Visual identification + craft activity
Students put the pieces back together and paste the “puzzle” in the correct order.
✏️ Step 3 – Write & Race!
Writing + friendly challenge
Now it’s time to write the verb to be — and see who can write it correctly faster than their classmates!
The aim is not simply to write faster, but to help children remember the verb, recognise it visually and become more confident writing it independently.
Because sometimes, turning a boring grammar exercise into a game is all it takes to make learning memorable. 💛
