Circadian Love by Gayle Worthy
“Circadian Love brings to the reader not only a beloved family but the American South with all its tradition and character and pathos. Two grandmothers, the main characters, bind the work together, but every page brings a new personality, a compelling memory, a chuckle, or wisdom born from time and reflection.”
— Nancy Swanson, Author of Washed and Dried
“Circadian Love is a story about a Mississippi childhood lived in the arms of a doting family, particularly those of two beloved grandmothers. Gayle Worthy opens a home to us where everyday rhythms of love can be depended on—a world of family jokes, funny car games, and cinnamon rolls hot from the oven, where laughter is a lullaby and endearing foibles are as common as the summer corn silk. Worthy’s poems, though, take us much deeper. We come to know people who must somehow endure the unendurable and a place where a “melancholy freight train” rolls through the landscape. In this collection, another talented Mississippi writer navigates the complexities of home.”
— Darlene O’Dell, Author of Main Street & Raised in the World of Everyday Poets
