Help students use evidence to explain past plate motion, surface change and geologic history. This 36-page printable PDF centers a detailed two-page five-step teacher worked example: Read the clues, Annotate, Find evidence, Analyze, and Eliminate and justify.

Four visual review lessons provide eight quick checks of understanding before test prep to help teachers identify misconceptions and improve student success. Four connected hands-on paper activities support the same reasoning used in the practice questions: reconstructing land pieces with illustrated Glossopteris leaf fossils and granite examples, moving seafloor strips, modeling boundaries and sorting strata into geologic intervals.

INCLUDED

- Explicit I can success criteria, standards, flexible sequence and materials.

- Louisiana Educator Rubric-informed guidance for curriculum connections, student ownership, questioning, flexible groups, feedback/revision, checks/reteach/recheck and closure.

- Central five-step teacher think-aloud with what to mark/say, evidence reasoning, distractor explanations and guided transfer.

- Four illustrated review lessons and eight quick checks.

- Four matching activities with preparation, directions, reusable evidence/cards, recording pages, expected reasoning, limitations and drawing alternatives.

- Supplied schematic land-piece evidence, idealized seafloor ages, boundary/process references and undisturbed sedimentary-strata evidence.

- Four multiple-choice items, one select-two item, dependent and independent pairs, a two-point written response and an original six-point extended task with keys/criteria.

- Eight task cards and matching answer cards.

STANDARDS AND SCOPE

Targets Louisiana 8-MS-ESS2-3, 8-MS-ESS2-2 and 8-MS-ESS1-4, with corresponding NGSS MS-ESS2-3, MS-ESS2-2 and MS-ESS1-4. Current LDOE crosswalk, July 2026 assessment guide, July 27, 2026 Grade 8 Amplify implementation guide and September 2026 Educator Rubric checked October 28, 2026.

Students interpret patterns, construct evidence-based explanations, compare time/spatial scales and distinguish relative from numerical ages. Interval references are supplied; no memorization of period/epoch names or paleomagnetic-anomaly analysis is required. Tectonic changes are the main ESS2-2 focus, with weathering/erosion connections. This is independent focused review, not the complete Amplify curriculum or an official LEAP resource. Evaluation ratings depend on observed teaching and student evidence.

USE AND MATERIALS

Useful for review, intervention, small groups or prepared substitute packets. Teacher preselects sections and keeps keys separate. Activities use paper, pencils, scissors, index cards and optional colored pencils; precut/drawing alternatives are provided. Model data are labeled and are not actual field measurements.

FORMAT

Printable PDF. No editable Word template is included in the purchase.
