A team agreement for teachers and TAs on who does what during a behaviour incident. In a hard moment, nobody has time to work out roles, so we agree them before.

What's included

• Five roles, each with what that adult does and does not do: the Voice talks to the pupil, the Mover moves the other pupils, the Caller calls for help, the Watcher keeps eyes on the room, and the Writer records what happened once it is safe

• What to do with two adults, or one adult alone

• Who covers each role by time of day, from arrival to home time

• Agreed signals and a team phrase for calling for help

• Five minute huddle after an incident

How I use it

We fill it in as a team at the start of term and revisit it after any incident that did not go to plan. The huddle afterwards is short: did everyone know their role, what tipped it at the start, what we change for tomorrow, and who checks on the pupil and the adults.

This sits alongside your school's behaviour policy, crisis plan and crisis prevention and de-escalation training. It is not a replacement for any of them.
