Little Bible Explorers: Moses and the Mountain of Promise | Digital Edition
Maya wonders whether her photograph belongs in the family collage. Mum reassures her: there is already a place for her, and room for her questions. Then the Bible opens to a very different story of a people gathering before a great mountain.
After leaving Rephidim, Israel camps at Sinai. God recalls His rescue, speaks to Moses about keeping His covenant and gives instructions for the people to prepare. They agree to listen. On the third day, thunder, lightning, a thick cloud, smoke and a loud trumpet sound mark an awesome meeting at the mountain. Moses leads the people to its foot and brings another reminder about the boundary.
Moses and the Mountain of Promise uses warm pastel illustrations and simple read-aloud language to explore listening and wondering. The grown-up notes distinguish Israel’s biblical covenant from Maya’s unconditional place in her family and explain the frightening details and severe warnings in the full passage. The story ends before the Ten Commandments in Exodus 20.

DIGITAL DOWNLOAD
You receive two book files:
• A 29-page PDF with an 8 × 8-inch square page design and searchable interior text
• A matching 29-page EPUB 3 with a fixed layout
The EPUB preserves the illustrated pages as images, with complete page wording in image alternative text and a contents entry for each page. Text does not reflow independently. Use an EPUB reader that supports fixed-layout EPUB 3. The PDF provides an alternative for readers without that support. Tablets, computers and compatible colour e-readers can display the colour pages.
Read together at home or in a guided children’s Bible session. Parents, carers and teachers can use the questions and notes to support a conversation at the child’s pace.
A NOTE FOR GROWN-UPS
This edition selects events from Exodus 19. Read the full chapter alongside the context notes. It simplifies repeated journeys and omits the sexual instruction and death penalties in verses 12–15 and 21–24. The full passage includes fire, smoke, shaking and severe warnings concerning God’s holiness. This account is not merely an everyday safety lesson.
The illustrations show the mountain’s dramatic cloud and lightning gently. Pause if the story feels frightening and welcome the child’s questions. Ordinary storms are not signs of divine punishment for a child’s behaviour. The eagles’ wings description is a word-picture of rescue, not a claim that the families travelled on birds.
Israel’s covenant and Maya’s family belonging are distinct. Her place is not earned by good behaviour, and other people are not less valuable. Do not use the story to threaten children or demand unquestioning obedience. Adults remain responsible for safety.
Activities use drawing and conversation indoors. Do not recreate Sinai with fire, smoke, loud noises, mountain climbing or frightening punishment.
The modern family scenes are fictional. Ancient settings are imaginative illustrations. Illustrations were created with AI assistance and selected and reviewed for this edition. This is a gentle retelling, not a Bible translation.
