In The Prayer of Faith, Michael E.B. Maher teaches that all believers are New Covenant priests according to the order of Melchizedek, called to offer spiritual sacrifices—chief among them, prayer. He distinguishes the prayer of faith (James 5:15) from other prayers such as intercession, thanksgiving, and the prayer of hope.

Unlike the prayer of hope (which relies on God’s mercy when His will is unknown), the prayer of faith is based on God’s express promises and will always receive what it asks for. However, for this prayer to work, several conditions must be met before, during, and after praying. Believers must walk in love, recognise their personal level of faith, and eliminate all doubt regarding God’s will or ability. They must ask the Father in Jesus’ name, believe they receive at the moment they pray, and give thanks by faith before seeing results.

Additionally, the prayer of faith operates only within specific spheres of authority: oneself, immediate family (children under thirteen), employees, and fellow believers unable to pray for themselves. After praying, believers must resist worry and sometimes exercise patience, as answers may be delayed. When applied correctly, Maher concludes, the prayer of faith never fails to produce the desired outcome.
