Á Chloris

Simple, sweet, and fit for any occasion, Á Chloris is a classic crescent shawl in two sizes. Cast on from the same number of stitches, the two are worked with short-rows from the top down. The laceweight shawl is worked with a rapid short-row rate, forming a shallow piece suitable for evening wear; the DK version utilizes a slower rate, creating a large, deep wrap just right for snuggling up in. An attached leaf lace edging finishes both versions. In either size, its old-fashioned charm and unpretentious versatility reflect its namesake song by Reynaldo Hahn.

Yarn: Shawl A: SweetGeorgia Yarns CashSilk Lace (lace, 45% cashmere, 55% silk; 400 yd, 50 g): Tumbled Stone, 1 skein
Shawl B: SweetGeorgia Yarns Flaxen Silk DK (DK, 65% silk, 35% linen; 248 yd, 115 g): Slate, 3 skeins

Needles: Shawl A: One 60” circular, US 3 (3.25mm) or size needed to obtain gauge
Shawl B: One 60” circular, US 6 (4mm) or size needed to obtain gauge

Notions: Stitch markers, tapestry needle, rigid & flexible blocking wires, rustproof pins, blocking mats

Notes: The body of the shawl is cast on at the top edge and worked downwards with short rows; additional stitches are cast on for the lace edging, which is knit perpendicular to the body and attached to the live body stitches as it is worked.
The same number of stitches is cast on for both sizes; the short rows create either a deeper or a shallower shawl.
A double-pointed needle can be used to work the edging stitches if desired; I personally prefer to use the two tips of the same circular needle.

A circular needle is specified to accommodate the large number of stitches and for ease of grafting; do not join in the round.
Shawl A used about 310 yards of laceweight yarn; Shawl B used about 585 yards of DK-weight yarn.
Lace is charted only.
