FSE Template Assigner plugin (Lifetime license)

• You can assign FSE templates to pages, posts, and custom posts with the FSE Template Assigner plugin.
• You can make this assignment fully conditional, based on:
• Taxonomy (such as category or tags)
• Excluding page or post IDs
• Excluding taxonomy by ID or slug
• Visible for logged-in or logged-out or both
• You can deactivate a rule, duplicate it, or just delete a rule.
• NEW: Make a copy of any FSE template with a new name and description.

• Download plugin
• Activate plugin

• Setting up an FSE template rule is simple.
• Go to Admin, View, FSE Template Rules.
• Create your first rule. 
• You can delete any FSE template rule and even duplicate it.
• Excluding posts is always done based on ID, not on title or slug.
• Excluding posts based on taxonomy: choose a taxonomy, such as categories or tags, and choose a category (or tag). This can be done based on ID or slug!
• Choose visibility: everyone by default, but you can also choose only logged-in or only logged-out. Note: if you are logged in as an admin, logged-out and logged-on do not work; otherwise, you would no longer be able to see your own posts.
• Save.

• After Save, the template present in every post is updated for all configured posts. In the event of conflicting rules, the top one (highest priority) is applied and saved in the relevant posts.
• If you open one of those posts to edit, you will see the new template name listed there as well, and you can open the newly assigned template from that location to edit.

• If you want to give a post the default template again, and you were to remove the FSE template rule you had previously set, that post would not have the default template back. That is because the plugin actually set it in the database. 

How do you restore it?

• There are 2 ways to do this (they are equally good):

1. Open the relevant post or page in Editing mode, click on template, and choose 'Set default template'.
2. Adjust the FSE template rule by selecting the default template and clicking Save. And the default template is set again for that post(s).

Examples:

• Assigning different templates to the same post ID.
• Assigning a template to a certain category and another template with a certain tag, don’t assign that category and tag to the same post; the post can’t show 2 templates at the same time… 

If conflicting rules occur, nothing bad happens: the first match is applied. The priority works from top to bottom. You can also make practical use of this priority: you assign a template to a number of posts, and one rule lower, you assign a different template to the same posts; the top one rules. If you want to apply the other rule (temporarily, discount week, black friday), you move it up.

The plugin FSE Template Assigner can make a copy (or several...) of any existing FSE template!

How does it work?

• Go to Appearance, Settings, FSE Template Rules
• Click on the tab 'Copy FSE Template'.
• Choose the template you wish to copy.
• Provide a new name, and a description, and click on Create Copy. The success message on top even provides you with the link to edit the newly created template.

• Nothing happens to your templates, of course.
• The templates assigned by the plugin to the target posts remain in place. Therefore, they do not revert to the situation before using the plugin, because the FSE Template Assigner plugin works according to FSE specifications and stores everything in the correct locations in the WordPress database.
