This is a pattern for a colourwork cowl worked with small farm yarn from 5 Sisters Farm (or stash). This project is worked in the round from a provisional cast-on which is later joined by grafting. It is easily adjustable in size by working more or fewer repeats/stripes.

yarn:

2-ply DK Shetland; 100% Shetland wool in natural colours; pasture-raised with love in Plainfield NH and processed by Pict Wool Fiber Mill in NH; approximately 298 yards/4 oz skein/113g

approximate yarn amounts:

colour A Dark (Lilac) - 77g; 204yds / 187m

colour B Med (Lotus) - 92g; 243yds / 223m

colour C Light (Quinoa) - 111g; 292yds / 268m

needles:

3.5mm (us no 4) circular, 16in/41cm

4.0mm (us no 6) circular, 16in/41cm

additional 3.5mm or smaller to use when grafting

gauge: 24 sts x 26 rounds = 4in

measured over stranded stockinette on larger needles

Some knitters work stranded and single-coloured at different gauges. Change needles, as needed, to keep gauge the same throughout.

approximate finished size:

16in / 40.5cm (tube circ) or 8in / 20.5cm (flat width) x 48in / 123cm (length)

additional tools:

waste yarn for provisional cast-on, needle to weave in ends, st marker
